Position Characteristics: The successful applicant will teach Japanese courses at all levels, courses in general or applied Linguistics, and General Education courses. The successful applicant will also coordinate the Minor in Japanese. Area of specialization open. This position is part of a cohort of new faculty with an emphasis in world cultures, globalization and international education, and as such there are unique opportunities for the successful candidate to pursue integrative research efforts, collaborative projects, and shared program/course developments within the cohort. Specific assignments will depend on departmental needs. Other duties will include, but are not limited to, advising students, participating in program development, research and problem solving activities, and committee service at all levels of university governance. The successful candidate may be called upon to teach in a distance-learning mode and encouraged to develop web-enhanced and/or web-based instruction. Outcomes assessment and service learning are important components of the university curriculum. Faculty members are also expected to engage in service activities at all levels of the university and provide academic and professional advice to students. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with faculty.
Academic Preparation: Ph.D. in Linguistics or very closely related field from an accredited institution or equivalent is required for appointment to a tenure track position.
Teaching Or Other Experience: Evidence of quality teaching in Japanese as a foreign language courses. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to and potential for teaching excellence and scholarly activity at the university level. Candidates with a record of publications, presentations, and/or participation in grant activities are strongly preferred. The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
