Janasansadaya International Book Fair 2010 and Essay Competition


The International Book Fair which held from 18th to 26th of September, 2010 at the Bandaranayake Memorial International Conference Hall, Colombo, was a great success to Janasansadaya. This was the 3rd consecutive year for Janasansadaya to participate in this International Book Fair. The book stall of Janasansadaya was visited by varieties of enthusiastic readers from all parts of the Island.

At its stall Janasansadaya exhibited, under the theme of 'Human Rights and Law,' only the publications of its own and of Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC). Almost all nearly 4500 books and periodicals of AHRC were sold at this stall. There was a big demand for the Sinhalese publications of Janasansadaya among Government Servants including Police Officers.

Every year the month of September is recognized as the 'National Literary Month' in Sri Lanka. For 16th consecutive year, to celebrate this month, Janasansadaya organized an Inter-School Essay Competition among school children. On 26th September, the last day of the Book Fair, prizes and certificates were distributed to school children who participated in the above 'Essay Competition'. Following are the names of the winners who received awards from Janasansadaya, at the Book Fair - BMICH.

First Prize: Visaka Samarasinghe; St. Thomas Girls High School, Matara.
Second Prize: P.G. Ruwan Sampath; Dharmaloka Nawoodaya Vidyalaya, Pelmadulla, Ratnapura.
Third Prize: H.M.R.B. Dasanayake; St. Silvesters College, Kandy.
