BookCyclone, an imprint of the Hong Kong-based publishing company Typhoon Media, exists in order to fill a large gap in the electronic marketplace. Most of the titles are new releases, self-published books, and the entire collection of the biggest-name authors. The classics, and other works in the public domain, are also easily available online, as well. There’s still a lot missing, though, and that’s where we come in.
With BookCyclone, we believe we have created a win-win scenario for readers, authors, and publishers... as well as for other e-book retailers. We are working with writers (directly, and via agents) to make a rather large number of backlist but still viable titles available as e-books. We’ll market them here – in the main e-book software formats – at BookCyclone.com, which should launch in October. We’ll also be able to sell them through the major online e-book retailers. We’re also partnering with independent and university presses around the world in order to make their books available. We have a unique perspective and a worldwide outlook, so we can offer readers access to a unique array of e-books, quite different from what has previously been available (and arguably more interesting).
Provided electronic files can be made available to us (we prefer Word but can also work from PDF and InDesign, ideally with unlocked/editable text), we can handle the conversions. We don’t require you to format the Word document a certain way before you send it to us; nor do we expect you to convert it to HTML or epub format yourself.
We have carefully developed a cost model to make this feasible. We’re not interested in usurping publisher’s rights to their books; instead, we’re offering a licensing agreement that enables us to publish the books. This is a slightly different publishing paradigm than anything else currently out there, because we are acting as both publisher and distributor. If you’re a publisher, author, or agent, and would like a copy of one of our information sheets, or would like to discuss what BookCyclone can do for your books, please e-mail us:
