Deadline: 2 October 2010
The Cornell University Indonesian Association (CIA) and the Yale Indonesia Forum (YIF) invite you to participate in our fifth biannual Northeast conference on Indonesia. Our first conference was inspired by the 80th anniversary of the Second Youth Congress, which declared the emergence of Indonesia as a nation with a pledge of “one land, one people, and a unifying language.” Various northeastern university groups have participated in our conferences, notably the Wesleyan Indonesian Students Association, which has been involved since the very beginning.
Every presentation from previous conferences has called us as academic intellectuals to learn about Indonesia from various disciplines, and to contribute our learning to Indonesia’s journey at the beginning of the 21st century. This conference continues to be the prime venue for academic research and projects on contemporary Indonesia, preferably presented in Bahasa Indonesia, or English. Therefore, we are welcoming all Indonesianists in northeastern universities to participate in the fifth conference, to be held on Saturday, October 16, 2010, in the Kahin Center, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York.
For conference logistics at Cornell, please contact the 2010-2011 CIA president, Cerise Marcela (cm485@cornell.edu); for conference transportation from Yale, please contact the YIF advisor, Indriyo Sukmono (indriyo_sukmono@yale.edu); For those who would like to present, please submit an abstract and short biography, both in Bahasa Indonesia and English, to Jolanda Pandin (jmp244@cornell.edu) by October 2nd, 2010. For reference, see the attached copies of two abstracts and biographies from the 2009 conference.
