Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Department Chair, and the Dean of School of Humanities, Arts and Social Science, teaches courses to support UVU's Chinese Studeis Intiative under a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives. Supports and seeks always to fulfill the guiding concepts for the college which are embodied in UVU's Mission.
Essential Functions, Major Duties, and/or Accountabilities:
- Teaches undergraduate courses in Chinese language (Mandarin), literature, culture, and/or history.
-Plans, prepares and follows an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught.
- Prepares instructional materials, including examinations, course outlines, syllabi's, visual aids and presentations.
- Instructs, manages and supervises individuals and groups through lecturers, discussions, conferences, demonstrations, field trips, individualized instruction, and other appropriate methods.
- Evaluates instruction and learning through use of written, oral and performance test.
- Maintains a student oriented approach to education.
- Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records regarding student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.
- Establishes and maintains regular office hours and advises students during office hours and well as at other times as needed.
- Assists advisors, department chair, faculty and department staff in maintaining an effective program.
-Improves professionally and maintains currency in the course taught and desirable classroom conditions.
- Actively engages students in lectures, discussion, and laboratories.
- Fosters and engages in collegial relations with the community.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in relevant discipline from an accredited institution
Experience teaching Chinese Studies courses.
Extensive knowledge of the Chinese language, literature, culture and history.
Specialization in contemporary China (although other specializations will be given consideration).
Experience with curriculum development, program development and/or study abroad will be an added benefit.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be native or near-native in both Chinese and English.
Skills in effective human relations and communication techniques.
Ability to motivate, manage and evaluate students and work effectively with people.
Ability to follow written and oral procedures and instructions.
