The contest is for writing a 40,000 words novella with ‘suspense’ as its central theme.

Contact Publishing is a boutique independent publisher, with a mission to nurture fresh writing talent; bring fresh ideas and new format of books to the readers. We take great delight in discovering fresh authors and helping them to develop both their ‘voices’ and careers.

We are proud to announce a new writing contest The Page Turner Prize to discover a new talent for writing a series of page turning novellas. The contest is for writing a 40,000 words novella in a genre we describe as ‘suspense’. How you define suspense is up to you: it could be mystery, crime, adventure or even kitchen-sink drama - anything that has the potential to end on a cliffhanger and leave the reader eager for more. All we are excluding from this particular contest are the genres of horror and fantasy.

To participate in the contest submit your storyline, synopsis and 2 sample chapters by 1st November 2010. Shortlisted entries will be asked to submit the novella by the 15th Janurary

The Winning Prize: A Publishing Contract with a cash advance of £1000 to write a series of 3 novellas and a 10% royalty on net sales. The first novella will be published in the summer of 2011 as an eBook and in a print edition.

Top Ten entries:
The Top Ten short-listed entries will receive a copy of Writers in Black and White, Contact Publishing’s new photo book, featuring interviews with 31 well-known authors (worth £15.99).

The runner-up may also be considered for a publishing contract depending on the quality of the writing.

Eligibility:

The contest is open to everyone 18 years or older. Unpublished authors are welcomed and judging will be based purely on the strength of the piece submitted, not on previous work or reputation. Entries may be submitted from any country in the world.

Entry Fee:

There is a entry fee of £10.00 to ensure that only serious contestants submit their work to the judging panel.

This is a two staged competition in which:

Stage 1. In the first stage contestants need to submit:
• An outline, theme and story-line of the proposed mini series (maximum 500 words)
• A synopsis (maximum 1000 words) of the first novella of the series, explaining the plot and character development
• Two sample chapters, to be used to judge the writing style and the writer’s ability to develop the story.

Stage 2. Based on these submissions a short-list will be drawn-up and the successful contestants will be asked to submit the full novella within 60 days of being selected.
