Announcement: 2010 Studies in Modern Korea

Korean Studies Promotions Service is pleased to announce two projects for 2010 to participate in English publication of a series focused on modern Korea. Specific topics such as politics, economics, culture, society, ethics and so forth are self-selected. The period of support will be up to a total of 3 years. The amount of financial support for each project is 200 million KRW per year. We believe this program will contribute to the future of Korean Studies through establishing the groundwork to understand the modern society of Korea.

Area of Support

- English series focused on modern Korea (specific topics such as politics, economics, culture, society, ethics and so forth are self-selected.) All research results are required to be published as books

Scope of Support

- Scope of support: 200 million Korean Won per year for each series project (up to two projects)
- Each project consists of one series, at least 10 books to be written over 3 years (total of 600 million Korean Won)

Support Specification

- Support research institute and/or research group for the English series publication (minimum 10 books)

- Single-authored and co-authored (up to 2 people) allowed. (The title of a series is to be determined by the applicant, provided the title reflects the gist of Modern Korea.)

- Writing must be completed within set time, and must be published with a European academic publisher within 2 years of project termination date.

Application Period

- Online Application: 3:00pm, Monday 27 September, 2010 - 5:00pm, Thursday 30 September, 2010. (Korean Time)

- Postal submission of documents: until 6:00pm Thursday 7 October, 2010 (Korean Time). Applications submitted by post must arrive at the Academy of Korean Studies before the deadline.

1) Download “Application Guidelines for Studies in Modern Korea” from our website.

2) Write a project proposal and other required documents using the formats given in the guidelines (please use MS word or PDF)

3) Submit a project proposal and other documents online by deadline;

4) Send the required documents in hard copy by mail to arrive KSPS no later than the deadline specified above.
