Tiwi Interschool Best Reading Campaign Contest

Eligibility: students in Tiwi, Albay
Prize/Payment: PhP 10,000

Objectives:

• To encourage each school or division to conceptualize, mount, and sustain their own campaign to get their students to read more
• To encourage the school or division to be creative and resourceful in thinking up their own campaign
• To help each school or division develop a sense of unity in creating an educational project that involves each student

Rules and guidelines:

1. The contest is open to all public and private elementary or high schools in Tiwi, Albay.
2. There will be two categories for this competition: Elementary and Highschool.
3. The campaign must be spearheaded by a teacher or group of teachers with a group of students.
4. The campaign should be implemented starting September 2010.
5. The proponents are responsible for all aspects of the campaign: conceptualization, implementation, monitoring, and financing.
6. The campaign should be submitted to the Filipinas Heritage Library in a Proposal Sheet containing the following information:
 Campaign Title and Category
 Objectives (ultimate objective is to increase readership and to instill a deeper love of books and reading among their students)
 Proponents
 Campaign Description
 Evaluation or Monitoring Procedures
 (to follow) Photo or Video Documentation
7. The deadline of submission of entries is on September 30, 2010.
8. The entry may be submitted in print or digital format and may also be mailed and properly labels as follows:

9. The team of judges will make unannounced visits to the participating schools between October and November to evaluate the campaign.
10. The criteria for judging is as follows:

Impact (20%)
• Does the campaign elicit interest and excitement among the participants?
• Does the campaign encourage a love for reading and good literature?
• Is the campaign relevant to the participants?

Reach and Student Participation (20%)
• How many members of the school community participated in the campaign?
• To what degree did the students coordinate and mobilize the campaign?
• Does it forge a partnership with the Tiwi Municipal Library?

Sustainability (25%)
• Can the campaign be carried out every year and still generate the same results?
• Does the campaign lead to the creation of a tradition of book reading within the school?
• Can this campaign be adapted by other schools

Resourcefulness (15%)
• Did the school explore and exhaust all possible resources to aid the implementation of their reading campaign?

Originality (20%)
• Is the campaign an original idea?
• Was the campaign put together in a resourceful and creative way?
• Does the campaign make use of fresh ways of introducing literature and encouraging reading of books?
• Does the campaign creatively promote the use of reading in one’s life?
11. Contest results will be announced by November 20, 2010.
12. The following prizes will be given:

Elementary category
1st runner up – 5,000 pesos
Grand Prize – 10,000 pesos

Highschool category
1st runner up – 5,000 pesos
Grand Prize – 10,000 pesos
