MY FAVORITE BOOK ESSAY WRITING CONTEST
Part of the Tiwi Reading Campaign 2010
The My Favorite Book Essay Writing Contest is an initiative of the local government of Tiwi, in partnership with Chevron and the Filipinas Heritage Library of the Ayala Foundation, Inc., that seeks to promote a greater love for books and reading among the citizens of Tiwi and to provide an opportunity for talented writers in Tiwi to showcase their work. The winners will be announced in November and their winning pieces will be published in the Tiwi and FHL websites and possibly, a partner local newspaper.
MECHANICS
1. The contest is open to Filipino citizens and residents of the Municipality of Tiwi, sixteen (16) years old and above.
2. Each person can only submit one piece for the competition. The theme of the essay is “My Favorite Book.”
3. Entry should have a minimum of five hundred (500) words, double-spaced, using 12-pt font Arial, Times New Roman, Times, or Book Antiqua.
4. Entry may be in Filipino or English.
5. An entry should be submitted in print (in letter-sized bond paper) or digital format (CD or through e-mail). The essay itself should not contain the author’s name or any identifying marks.
6. The entry should be accompanied by an application form, a copy of which can be downloaded from both the Filipinas Heritage Library website (www.filipinaslibrary.org).
7. Deadline of submission of entries is on October 1, 2010, 5:00 p.m. and sent to the Office of the Mayor, Municipal Hall, Municipality of Tiwi, Albay. A digital copy may also be emailed to tiwireadingcampaign@filipinaslibrary.org, posted by the set deadline date and time, with “My Favorite Book Essay Writing Contest” as subject.
8. The entry (composed of the application form, printed manuscript, and/or digital copy of the manuscript) should be placed in a long brown envelope marked as follows:

9. There will be only one grand prize winner and one runner-up, who will receive a cash prize of Ten Thousand Pesos (10,000.00) and Five Thousand Pesos (5,000) respectively. Judges will come from organizing bodies
10. Employees or relatives of employees, up to the third level of consanguinity, of any of the organizers, partners, and sponsors are prohibited from participating in this contest.
11. The winners will be announced on November 24 and posted on the FHL and Tiwi websites. Awarding will be scheduled on a later date as determined by the Office of the Mayor.
