Filipino Poet Joel Toledo Awarded a Bellagio Center Residency by the Rockefeller Foundation

We received word that poet Joel Toledo from the Philippines has been awarded a Bellagio Residency by the Rockefeller Foundation. Joel Toledo was last seen leading the Poetry Rountable Workshop at Lit Up Singapore 2010 in July.

His long list of awards includes:
1. Carlos Palanca Award in 2004 and 2005
2. Meritage Press Poetry Prize
3. 2006 Bridport Prize in United Kingdom
4. Philippine National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Writers Prize
5. 2008 National Book Awards nomination

The Bellagio Residency is the same residency awarded to other Filipino writers (Alfred "Krip" Yuson, Conchitina Cruz, Marjorie Evasco) in the past.

If you are interested to apply, the next deadline for the Bellagio Center competition for scholars and creative artists will be December 1, for a possible residency between mid-August and November 30, 2011. The application process will open on October 1, 2010. Practitioner applications are accepted on a rolling admissions basis.
