Side Stream Submission Guidelines
Side Stream welcomes submissions from anyone, but especially New Zealand poets and artists. All submissions should be sent in the BODY of an email with 'Side Stream Issue _ Submission' in the subject line. Please specify which issue you are submitting for.
Poets retain copyright of any work accepted for publication in Side Stream. However it is expected that poets will acknowledge Side Stream as having previously published the work if it subsequently appears elsewhere.
All submissions should be sent to Miriam Barr at sidestreamnz AT gmail DOT com.
Poetry Submission Guidelines
Submissions of previously unpublished poetry should be less than 25 lines long (including title and line breaks). Poems of up to 50 lines will be considered, but shorter poems get preference.
Side Stream is pocket-sized, so please ensure your line-lengths are short enough to fit that - roughly 10 words per line is usually the max that will fit.
Poems should be sent in a plain font in the BODY of an email. Unsolicited attachments will not be opened and your submission will be discarded. Ensure your submissions are in the main body of the email with CLEARLY labelled titles. Include contact details and clearly state your name as you want it to appear in print.
Side Stream is looking for CONTEMPORARY poetry that is interesting, clever and has something to say. Poetry that plays with language and form, that is rich in content and shows both attention to detail and creative flair is especially sought after - Side Stream wants something a bit different. And it wants something good.
Cover Art Submission Guidelines
Cover art submissions should be BLACK AND WHITE and preferably drawings, as they will be photocopied and any detail with colour will be lost.
Please look at the images that have been used so far (in my pictures), this will give you a good indication of what Side Stream is looking for and is likely to choose. Cover art submissions should be interesting to look at, aesthetically pleasing and different.
If you have a question that has not been answered here please post your question in a comment below this blog and I will answer it.
I do not contact unsuccessful submissions, though if you'd like to know why your poem or art wasn't chosen, you are welcome to contact me for feedback. Only do so if you can cope with receiving constructive criticism.
