Special Assistance Plan Scholarship — Bicultural Studies Programme (Chinese)
The Special Assistance Plan Scholarship (SAPS) is offered by the Ministry of Education to encourage outstanding students, who have the interest and capacity to engage China’s culture and contemporary society, to pursue Chinese Language under the Bicultural Studies Programme (Chinese) [BSP(C)]. SAPS is available at the following centres:

* Hwa Chong Institution;
* Dunman High School;
* Nanyang Girls’ High School; and
* River Valley High School.

Candidates should:

* Be Singapore Citizens;
* Have been successfully admitted to BSP(C) in one of the BSP(C) centres;
* Be among the top 10% of their PSLE cohort;
* Have achieved a grade of ‘A*’ in Chinese Language or ‘Merit’ in Higher Chinese Language; and
* Have achieved a grade of ‘A’ in English Language.

Selection of Award

Applications will open in September 2010. BSP(C) students who have met the eligibility criteria of SAPS and are nominated by their schools will be invited for the selection interview. Please approach the respective schools for more information.

The scholarship selection interviews for shortlisted candidates will be conducted in November/December 2010. Applicants will receive their interview call letters through their respective schools in mid November 2010.

Results of the scholarship selection will be announced in late December 2010.
Terms and Conditions

The scholarship provides an allowance of $1,000 per annum. It also covers school fees based on Singapore Citizens’ rates, subject to an annual cap of $2,400. It is tenable for 4 years, subject to satisfactory progress at the end of each year. Successful applicants are not required to enter into a bond to serve the Singapore Government.

At Secondary 3 and Secondary 4 level, successful applicants must offer Higher Chinese and Chinese Electives, as required by the school. At Pre-University level, successful applicants must offer H2 Chinese Language & Literature (may be offered in lieu of H1 CL) and H1/H2 China Studies (Chinese) or H2 China Studies (Chinese), but there will not be any restriction on the choice of the remaining subjects. Applicants, however, are encouraged to take up H1/H2 Economics/Geography/History/Literature.
