CALL FOR PAPERS: 21ST Regional Conference on West Visayan History and Culture

THEME: “Culture in the Face of Environmental Changes”
Venue: Jordan Guimaras
Date: September 23-24, 2010

Environmental change is a fact of life. Global warming, climate change, and disasters have wrecked havoc on the environment and have greatly affected life in the planet. The Philippines has faced disasters both natural (typhoons, earthquakes, floods, droughts) and man-made (oil spill, fire, armed conflicts) that have changed the Filipino way of life.

This year’s regional conference on West Visayan history and culture will center on how environmental change has affected various aspects of culture like:

Governance and public policy
Socio-economic activities (livelihood, tourism, technological innovations, etc.)
Arts (architecture, painting, photography, lore and written literature, etc.)

It will also explore into people’s responses on the aftermath of disasters which may include coping mechanisms and disaster preparedness.

Deadline for Submission of One-page Abstract: July 19, 2010
Deadline for Submission of Full-length Paper: August 31, 2010
