Award-Winning Writer Zhang Zilong to Speak at WALTIC
Award winning writer Zhang Zilong was born in Changzhou, China, in 1941 and has published more than 90 books since he made his literary debut in 1960. After having stopped writing for ten years his short story A Day of Director General of Mechanical and Electrical Bureau aroused great social echoes when it was published in 1976. A few years later, in 1979, he received the First Prize of National Prize of Excellent Short Stories for The Story of Director Qiao's Taking Post. And in 1980, as well as 1982, he got the prize again for The Diary of A Factory's Secretary and Wishing Happy New Year respectively.

At three different occasions Zhang Zilong has also been awarded the National Prize of Excellent Novellas for the novellas The Trailblazers (1980), Red,Orange, Yellow, Green, Light Blue, Blue and Purple (1981) and Sad Melody of Yan-Zhao Area (1984). In 1996, his Collected Works appeared, and most recently he published The Empire of Peasants (2008). Zhang Zilong is Vice President of Chinese Writers' Association and President of Tianjin Writers' Association.

Zilong will deliver a speech entitled "Creation is the quintessence of mind. And safeguarding the copyright is equal to protecting and respecting the value of life.”
