Picador Poetry Prize (for our friends in UK)
"Picador Poetry Prize" is the Macmillan Publishers Limited poetry competition. The winner will receive a publishing contract with Macmillan Publishers Limited for world rights, providing an advance of £1,000 on account of income, to deliver a complete manuscript of original poems, previously unpublished in book form, for publication under the Picador Poetry imprint.
Entrants who have previously published a full-length poetry collection anywhere in the world will not be eligible.
To be eligible, initial entries must comprise a sampler of ten pages of poems and be received by Macmillan Publishers Limited through their website www.picador.com/poetry/prize as set out in paragraph 7 below on or before the closing date of 1 September 2010 17:30 GMT.
Only original poetry written in the English Language, not previously published in book form will be considered, which must be accompanied by a legibly completed entry form; incomplete entries will be disqualified. You can enter the competition online at the following web address: www.picador.com/poetry/prize.
Entrants must be 18 or over on 1 April 2010 and a permanent resident of the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or the Republic of Ireland. If you win the competition you may be asked to provide proof of your age and place of residency.
Frieze Writer's Prize
Frieze is inviting entries for the Frieze Writer’s Prize 2010. Frieze Writer’s Prize was established in 2006 and is presented annually. The aim of the prize is to promote and encourage new critics from across the world, and many of the previous winners and commended entrants, including Jessica Lott and Jeffrey Ryan, have gone on to contribute frequently to frieze magazine.
Writers are invited to submit an unpublished 700 word review in English of a recent contemporary art exhibition. Entries must be submitted in English, but may be a translation (this must be acknowledged). Entrants must be over 18 years old. To qualify, entrants may only previously have had a maximum of three pieces of writing on art published in any national or regional newspaper or magazine. Previous online publication is permitted (this does not apply to the submitted review).
The winning entrant will be commissioned to write a review for the October issue of frieze and be awarded 2,000 GBP. Entries should be emailed as a word attachment. Please do not send images. The winner of the prize will be announced in September. The judges are Boris Groys, A.M. Homes and Jörg Heiser.
