The Pulitzer Center wants to hear your voice on some of the most pressing issues of the day. You can write original articles on issues raised by the Pulitzer Center in the Global Issues/Citizen Voices contests. Each title is based on Pulitzer Center reporting projects, which cover global crisis issues that are misreported, underreported or not reported on at all. The winning essay will be showcased on the Pulitzer Center’s website and on Helium.
Select the active essay contest title. Read the corresponding Pulitzer Center coverage on this issue at the Pulitzer Gateway Dying for Life to gain knowledge on this issue. Once you’ve finished researching the issue, write a compelling, well-researched article. Remember, these articles are not fiction so be sure to follow Pulitzer Center’s guidelines and submit original reporting or your firsthand experiences. The goal is to provide fresh insight and a compelling article.
Contest No. 9 has only one title. The contest will begin on May 24 and close on June 24. The Pulitzer Center Global Issues/Citizen Voices Award in this contest will be announced on Thursday, July 7.
After the submission period closes, the articles will be allowed a few more days for the rating system to work. The Pulitzer Center staff will review essays from the top 10 rated by the Helium community for each title. Selection will be based on the most compelling essay and the one that brings the freshest insight on the issue presented.
The winning essay will be featured on the landing page of that Pulitzer Center reporting project. It will include the Helium writer’s name, city or country of residence and photograph. Winning writers will also receive a Pulitzer Center Global Issues/Citizen Voices Award.
