Design and Layout Coordinator for Ricepaper Magazine
Ricepaper magazine is looking for a qualified designer, someone who is familiar with InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator programs; other Adobe experience is a definite plus. This is the perfect opportunity for recent art and design program graduates looking to gain experience in a professional environment and get a foot in the industry.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Design and Layout Coordinator ensures that the design of each issue adheres to the magazine’s predetermined visual identity, templates and styles. He or she works closely with editorial staff to plan and execute exceptional visual impact in all aspects of the design of the magazine.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Deals with all the layout and design of text, images, and ads (for 64 page quarterly magazine; internal pages and cover image)
* Designs, packages, and updates promotional materials; ensures pre and post- printing quality control,
* Able to assign, share and oversee work with other volunteers and design interns, and liaison with printers,
* Meets weekly with editorial in the Ricepaper office for regular updates (brainstorming, feedback and production meetings), and
* Makes regular hardcopy and online backups of all content during the design phase.

REQUIREMENTS

* Proficiency in InDesign CS3, Photoshop CS3, and Illustrator CS3,
* Strong talent for all elements of design, layout and typography with a sharp attention to detail,
* Must be able to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and be accountable for meeting deadlines with little supervision,
* Must be team-oriented, reliable, self-motivated and able to incorporate suggestions and direction from editorial staff and team leaders,
* Must possess strong time management skills, and possess a willingness to learn and perform under professional timelines and standards, and
* Experience in Flash, HTML, other print publishing experience, and access to InDesign program and a high-processing laptop are a definite plus.
