The term ‘North-East’ is a form of geographical, linguistic and ethnic stereotyping that clubs together eight disparate, often misunderstood states that happen to lie in the Northeastern periphery of the Indian union. North-East Indian Writings in English refer to the body of works by English-language writers from this region.
North-East India is an under-represented region in many ways. The troubled political climate, the beautiful landscape and the confluence of various ethnic groups perhaps have given rise to a body of writings that is completely different from the rest of India. Some of the most interesting Indian writing in English today is coming from this region.

The proposed anthology is intended to focus on some of the latest perspectives on noted North-East Indian Writers such as Mitra Phukan, Dhruba Hazarika, Easterine Iralu, Temsula Ao, Mamang Dai, Indira Goswami, Anjum Hasan, Siddhartha Deb, Harekrishna Deka, Srutimala Duara, Kynpham Sing Nongkynrih, Robin Singh Ngangom, Arupa Patangia Kalita, Sebastian Zumvu, Bimabati Thiyam Ongbi, Dhrubajyoti Bora, Esther Syiem, Bijoya Sawian, D.N. Bezbaruah, Jahnavi Barua, Siddhartha Sarma, Nitoo Das, Aruni Kashyap and Uddipana Goswami etc.

Interested scholars are requested to submit a 200-250 words abstract along with short bio through e-mail as MS Word attachment to Dr. Indu Swami at induswamionline@yahoo.com latest by June 30, 2010. The deadline for submission of full length papers (3000-7000 words) in latest MLA style is July 31, 2010. The anthology will be published by a reputed Indian publisher and a free copy will be provided to each contributor.
