Roopa Farooki on the Orange Prize Longlist
The Orange Prize for Fiction is awarded to the woman who, in the opinion of the judges, has written the best, eligible full-length novel in English. The prize is open to any full length novel, written in English by a woman of any nationality, provided that the novel is published for the first time in the United Kingdom between 1 April of the year before the prize is awarded and 31 March of the year in which the prize is awarded.

Roopa Farooki was born in Lahore in Pakistan, and brought up in London. She graduated from New College, Oxford in 1995 and worked in advertising before turning to write fiction. Her debut novel Bitter Sweets was shortlisted for the 2007 Orange New Writers Award. She now lives in south-west France with her husband and two young sons.

The shortlist for the Orange Award for New Writers will be announced on 13th April, followed by the Orange Prize for Fiction shortlist on 20th April. The winners of both will be announced at a ceremony on 9th June.
