Description: The Intercultural Alliance of Artists & Scholars, Inc. (IAAS) was founded in 2000 to promote multicultural literature and literacy. The IAAS encourages people of all cultural and socio-economic backgrounds to adopt reading, writing and the arts - in all of its forms - as part of their lifelong process. Despite the pluralism of United States society, people who are racially, socially, economically and culturally different generally do not interact with one another on substantive or egalitarian levels. There's an absence of closeness and significant understanding that often reinforces stereotypes that causes individuals to be suspicious, distrustful, even fearful of those who are different. Multicultural education is needed to help reverse these trends and attitudes by providing opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds to learn, live and work together.
