The appointee is expected to teach in two or more of the following areas: a) Comparative Literature; b) Contemporary World Literature; c) Chinese-Western Literary Relations (including Asian-American or other east or south Asian diaspora literatures); d) Literature and Film (or other disciplines); e) Literary Theory (diaspora/postcolonial studies, cultural studies, and ecocritical approaches preferred); and f) Gender Studies.

Other responsibilities include service on Department and Faculty committees, the mentoring of undergraduate majors and postgraduate students, as well as the supervising of undergraduate honours projects and postgraduate theses. The commitment to work in a multilingual and cross-cultural setting is essential. Some knowledge of Chinese, written and spoken, is an advantage but not strictly required.

Applicants should possess a relevant Ph.D. Degree, have a strong research program (including forthcoming or already secured peer-reviewed publications), as well as a demonstrated interest in collaborative work in the cross-cultural context. Outstanding teaching credentials are required. The position carries a 3-3 teaching load with continued research and publication expected.

The appointee will initially be offered a fixed-term contract of three years commencing September 2010. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
