A Little History of Our Little Festival:

"The coolest Literary Festival in the world." - Mohammed Hanif (author of Exploding Mangoes and 2009 participant)

It all started with a martini, or six …

In 2002, when author Frank Moorhouse ruminated on the martini in literature in the newly opened Glamour Bar, he started a Shanghai tradition: the Shanghai International Literary Festival. Today, it has grown into three packed weeks of readings, literary lunches, wine and poetry, literary walks, and simply talking and thinking about books and how they shape and enrich our lives. In 2010, we’ll see more than 50 authors from nearly 20 countries.

We’ve had writers like Gore Vidal, Amy Tan, Arundhati Roy, Markus Zusack and Jancis Robinson. In 2010, we'll host Pulitzer Prize winner Junot Diaz, China chronicler Peter Hessler, Man Asia Prize winner Su Tong, bestselling author Scott Turow, war correspondent Asne Seirestad, and the second annual Great FT Debate: China Will Be A Superpower By 2020.
