Description: The UP Panitikan is a non-profit, non-political organization of writers in the University of the Philippines Manila. It is an accredited university-based organization that was found on June 20, 2004 in the College of Arts and Sciences. The UP Panitikan firmly believes that literature is a by-product of social reality, and that it must serve as a catalyst for change towards a just social order. We hold that literature is an effective bearer of truth. In order to promote and effect social change, literary works must go through scrutiny and criticism by the Organization in order to ascertain their motives and effects to the general readers. Further, we uphold that there is no opportunity for neutrality; that our writings should reflect our stand and position on conflicts and contradictions taking place in the society.
