The Asia Writes Project
Asia Writes: Updated 2x daily, seven days/week, online 16 hours a day

We would like to introduce to you The Asia Writes Project, an independent initiative conceptualized to be the most comprehensive and up-to-date resource for writers in Asia-Pacific or of Asian origin. Our mission is to provide writers with legitimate and the most suitable opportunities to develop their craft and publicize their works; and keep them abreast with literary events in the region and elsewhere.

Accomplishments:

Asia Writes started out as a resource site. Originally hosted on Blogger, it later acquired the asiawrites.org domain on August 28, 2010. With no funding from any institution or organization, Asia Writes is able to continue to provide world-class and real-time service for free.

Network

* Asia Writes has a network of the most prominent writers, artists and publishers in/from the Philippines, India, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, the Middle East, etc. both on Facebook and Twitter. Visit our Facebook, Fanpage, and Twitter accounts. As of February 2011, the project has 7,800 followers.

Content

* The site is updated twice a day, seven days a week, with legitimate opportunities (residencies, scholarships, fellowships, and grants), calls for submissions, writing competitions, publication and media jobs, and employment opportunities in reputable universities. While other resource sites post everything that comes their way, it has been Asia Writes's policy to screen announcements to give writers only the most relevant opportunities. The posts are automatically socialized in Asia Writes's Facebook and Twitter accounts.

* Since its launch, it has been offering real-time accommodation of press releases, book reviews, and event announcements from Asian/mixed-Asian writers, writing institutions, journals, and literary groups. The Asia Writes team is online 16 hours a day.

* The Asia Writes Calendar (Around Asia) is updated daily to help Asian writers manage their schedules. The calendar, which is as comprehensive as the site itself, shows upcoming deadlines and events.

* Since February 2010, Asia Writes has been featuring select poems and short stories by prominent and emerging Asian/mixed-Asian writers. While other literary journals take months to reply to submissions, Asia Writes sends feedback to contributors within two days.

* As of February 2010, it has completed sorting its comprehensive directory of Asian/multicultural websites, containing (to date) 600 entries categorized into online journals/magazines, print journals, organizations, writers’ prize/awards, institutions, literary festivals, presses/publishers, blogs and other Asian resource sites.

Links

* Asia Writes has been cited as a reference in Wikipedia for two writer profiles.
