The Why Youth? 2013 Blogging Competition (Why Youth) is an online challenge that gathers the voices of the youth aged 18 to 30 years old on the different issues of development. The competition harnesses a platform comfortable and convenient for the youth to not only share their unique stories but to also create a community that inspires and empowers each other to contribute to social progress.

Why Youth seeks to find a blogger who will be the social media correspondent and will give live social media updates on the upcoming Asia’s Young Partners Forum (AYPF) and the Civil Society Program at the ADB Annual Meeting in New Delhi, India.

Grab the exciting opportunity to be the official Social Media Correspondent for Asian Youth Forum co-hosted by Asian Development Bank (ADB) ADB and Plan India on 30 April to 01 May 2013 and for the Civil Society Program at the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank on 02 May to 05 May 2013 in New Delhi, India.

Here’s how to join the contest:
  • Write a compelling blog post on the importance of the youth in driving development. The entry must be refreshing, inspiring, and reflective of your unique views on the topic.
  • Follow @ADBandNGOs and @Plan_India on Twitter.
  • Tweet @ADBandNGOs and @Plan_India the link to your blog entry. Use the hashtag #whyyouth
  • Fill up the registration form and send to whyyouth2013@gmail.com
  • Rush your entries no later than 30 March 2013 (23:59hrs +8 GMT)
1 grand prize winner and four finalists will be awarded an awesome trip to New Delhi, India for the Asian youth Forum and the Civil Society Program at the ADB Annual Meeting. Transportation, accommodations, and conference fees will be awarded to the winner. Finalists will be provided with accommodations and conference fees.

COMPLETE RULES AND CONDITIONS:

1. Eligibility: any citizen of any ADB member country*, who is interested in Youth Participation can join. Participants must produce and upload ablog entry and fill out an online registration form. Employees of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and their immediate family members (spouse, parent, sibling, child, grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin and respective spouses, etc.) and those living in their immediate households, whether or not related, are not eligible to enter the competition or win awards.

2. Deadline for submissions is 30 March 2013.

3. The submitted entry must meet the category outlines as they appear in the competition details.

4. The competition is specifically intended for new blog entries only. Blog entries published prior to 15 March 2013 will not be accepted.

5. Entrants may submit only one entry.

6. The entry must be between 350 to 600 words.

7. The stories can be provided in any language. However, entrants must provide an English translation at the bottom of their entries, in order to facilitate public outreach and the contest process.

8. Each blog entry must be the entrant’s original work, in its entirety, and must not infringe on the intellectual property or other rights of any other third party, regardless of country of residence. It is the entrant’s responsibility to clear all aspects of copyright.

10. ADB reserves the right to disqualify from the competition any blog entry which infringes the copyright or other intellectual property rights of third parties. ADB is not responsible or in any way liable for any violations of copyright or any other unauthorized use of images/graphics/video or other content of submitted entries.

11. Any blog entry containing rude, unlawful, discriminatory or sexually explicit, libelous material will not be accepted. Any entry containing promotional material, endorsement or advertising will not be accepted.

12. The selection committee may choose not to award a prize if applications do not meet the minimum standards defined by the panel and the ADB.

13. Decisions taken by the selection committee should be considered final and cannot be appealed.

14. Winning entries may be published on the ADB website: http://www.adb.org/. ADB reserves the right to publish all or any of the non-winning stories on the ADB website, other relevant websites and for non-profit use by the ADB and its not-for-profit partners. The publication may also included edited versions of the original pieces.

15. ADB will accept no liability if aspects of the competition or the competition itself is changed or cancelled.

16. By entering this contest, entrants give ADB the right to use, without restriction, any of the entries, in whole or part, and in any manner or medium, for promotional, in-house, publicity, and any other not-for-profit means. Entrants agree that a condition of entry into the competition is the assignment and transfer of these usage rights, including but not limited to the display, distribution, publishing, transmission, copy, reproduction, or production of derivative works.

17. By entering this contest, entrants agree to give ADB the right to use the entry and the copyright without any fee.

18. Entrants further agree that ADB may add its logo to their works.

19. Entrants do not waive their intellectual or moral property rights by entering the contest, and will therefore retain the right to be identified as the author/creator of their entries.

20. Winning or selected entries may be distributed regionally for publishing, if agreement is received from the entrant.

21. By joining the contest, participants signify that they are willing to acquire the necessary travel requirements in time for AYPF and ADB Annual Meeting.

23. By submitting your entry, you agree to all of the competitions rules and conditions.
