Globally, the United Nations Development Programme has commissioned a Web Upgrade Project in order to standardize the web presence of its 177 UNDP country offices around the globe. At present, many of the UNDP country offices have developed their own websites, with their own hosting, different content management systems and varying typologies for presenting information. In order to address this, UNDP commissioned a Web Upgrade Project to ensure that there was consistency in the look, presentation and content on country office websites. The project aims to, “standardize web management, reduce inefficiencies, improve UNDP’s global image, facilitate transparency and ensure that the general public, the UNDP community (partners, donors etc) development professionals and programme staff can easily locate the information they need”.

Within this context, the UNDP Timor-Leste will embark on a web project in order to migrate existing and create new content to facilitate migration to the new UNDP site. The UNDP Timor-Leste Country Office is recruiting a Website Editor and Specialist who will be responsible for implementing the new website upgrade, including content mapping, content integration, production and review. Direction and training will be provided by UNDP.

  • Expected Duration of Assignment: 3 months
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Web Editor and Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the editorial content and quality of the UNDP Timor-Leste new web site is of high standard and that it meets the corporate requirements outlined in the guidance note for the migration to the new site. UNDP Timor-Leste will provide the necessary background information in the form of project documents, reports, publication and analyses. In addition to this, it is expected that the incumbent will use other resources to complete the respective sections for the new UNDP website. Additionally, the Website Editor and Specialist will be required to produce an Inception Plan, within two weeks of commencing the assignment outlining how the deliverables will be met and the information needs for each component.

Under direction from the Media Officer the Website Editor and Specialist will:
  • Serve as the focal point from the Timor-Leste Country Office for the project
  • Carry out content integration in partnership with the New York office
  • Edit and write content
  • Ensure that correct content is entered into web templates and components
  • Perform a full content inventory
  • Align content with the required Information Architecture
  • Participate in scheduled meetings and training sessions
  • Respond in a timely fashion to project manager’s requests
  • Assist with communication of the project’s status and scope to the impacted organizational units within UNDP TL
  • Facilitate user acceptance testing
  • Carry out bug checking

EDUCATION: A degree in Mass Communications or ICT.

EXPERIENCE:
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in website content development and/ or maintenance
  • Knowledge in Content Management System and Web Content Management
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: Excellent English language skills and an ability to write short pieces of text to a high standard.
