OFFICIAL RULES of IJNet’s “Don’t Keep a Great Story to Yourself” Contest

ELIGIBILITY
: All users of the IJNet site are eligible to submit a written or video story. However, only users of IJNet who are 18 years of age or older are eligible to win a prize for a submission and only users who submit prizes in Arabic, English, Russian or Spanish will be eligible for prizes. Employees of IJNet, the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), and their immediate family members are not eligible to win. “Immediate family members” means parents, siblings, spouses, children, grandparents and grandchildren, whether by current or past marriage, remarriage, adoption or cohabitation, and anyone living in the same household, whether related or not. The contest Sponsor’s determination as to eligibility is final and binding. No purchase is necessary to enter or win. The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.

HOW TO ENTER:

Submit your written or video testimonial addressing the contest theme “Don’t keep a great story to yourself” using the electronic entry form found at ijnet.org. The contest entry period begins September 1, 2012 and ends on October 15, 2012.

The essay, photograph and/or video submitted must be the original work of the person submitting it and must not infringe any rights, including but not limited to trademark rights, copyrights or rights of privacy or publicity, belonging to any other person or entity.

Neither IJNet nor any of its affiliates is responsible for any electronic malfunction or lost, late, misdirected, damaged or illegible electronic entry. Sponsor is not responsible for any other problems or errors in modes of transmission of entries. Only entries submitted in the electronic entry form will be accepted. The deadline for receiving entries is October 15, 2012.

HOW TO WIN: The staff of IJNet and the International Center for Journalists will select the winning entries from all eligible entries received by the submission deadline. Winning entries will be those adjudged by the IJNet staff to be the most compelling, dynamic and engaging stories about participants’ use of IJNet. Entries will be judged on (1) Originality (2) Relevance to the contest theme (3) Artistry and/or creative skill demonstrated by the composition. Video entries will also be judged on (4) Production Quality. One grand prize winner will be selected from all submissions. In addition to the grand prize winner, four runners-up (one each for a submission in Arabic, English, Spanish and Russian) will also be selected.

PRIZES:

One (1) grand prize winner will be chosen to receive an Apple iPad (or gift of equal value, $500.00 USD)

In addition to the grand prize winner, four (4) entries will be chosen as runners-up and will receive an in-language prize. One winner will be chosen from each of the following languages: Arabic, English, Russian and Spanish. Each in-language prize consists of a $50 USD gift card from Amazon.com. Each in-language prize has a retail value of $50.00 USD.

The total retail value of all prizes to be awarded is $700.00 USD.

No prize is redeemable for cash. No alternative prize or other substitution is permitted except by Contest Sponsor, who reserves the right to substitute a prize or prizes of equal or greater value in the event of prize unavailability. Prizes are not transferable. Any applicable federal, state or local taxes or license fees are the responsibility of the winner(s). Winner must agree to hold the Sponsor harmless from any and all liability for damages or losses of any nature incurred during transit to and from any destination in connection with the prize.

NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS: Winners will be notified after October 31, 2012, using the e-mail address submitted at the time of entry. If there is no response to the notification within five (5) business days, or if the Winner does not meet all eligibility requirements including the signing of the Affidavit and Release referred to below, an alternate winner will be selected to receive the prize.

AFFIDAVIT AND RELEASE: All winners will be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and General Release, which includes an affirmation of eligibility, a release and waiver of legal claims, a consent to publicity, and a license of the submitted work for publication by IJNet. The failure of any contributor to a winning entry to complete and sign the Affidavit of Eligibility and General Release will result in forfeiture of the prize.
