In observance of the World Mental Health Month in October with the theme Depression: A Global Crisis, the Foundation for Advancing Wellness, Instruction and Talents (AWIT) is launching DIONATEXT, a text (SMS) poetry (diona) writing contest.
The diona is a short pre-Hispanic poetic form composed of three versified rhyming lines. Each line consists of seven syllables expressing a complete thought. DIONATEXT entries must be written in Filipino and must express triumph against depression.
Here is an example of a diona on depression:
Nagunaw ang mundo ko,
matapos na bumagyo
-pero babangon ako!
The contest commences on September 30, 2012. Accompanied by the name and address of the author, entries must be received through SMS not later than 5 p.m. every Friday of the contest week . Every week for the month of October, judges will pick 1 winner (Text Makata ng Linggo) who will receive P4,000 and giveaways. The winning entries will be campaign slogans for mental health for the entire year via posters, t-shirts, and reusable bags. Eventually all entries will be compiled in an anthology which will be released in April, 2013 in time for the World Health Day.
ELIGIBILITY:
Dionatext is open to all Filipinos of all ages around the world and anyone who speaks Filipino. Project volunteers and staff of Foundation for Advancing Wellness, Instruction and Talents, Inc. (AWIT) are ineligible and may not enter.
Each entrant may submit a maximum of two poems per week. The poem must be a diona. The diona is a short pre-Hispanic poetic form composed of three versified rhyming lines. Each line consists of seven syllables expressing a complete thought. The contest aims to popularize and revitalize the tradition of one of the oldest forms of Filipino poetry by using modern technology while educating the public about health issues.
DIONATEXT entries must be written in Filipino, must express triumph over depression, and is
the original, individual work of the entrant.
All submissions become the property of Foundation AWIT and will be considered for publication in the Dionatext sa Depresyon anthology. Entrants retain copyright on his/her own individual work. Winning entries will be used as slogan that will appear in posters, t-shirts, and reusable bags.
Contestants must submit their entries through text accompanied by the name and address of the author, entries must be received not later than 5 p.m. every Friday of the contest week . Every week for the month of October, judges will pick 1 winner as Text Makata ng Linggo.

SELECTION: The entry must be a diona, in Filipino, and expresses triumph over depression. Poems are judged based on originality, creativity, artistic quality, and consistency with the theme. Poems not meeting the requirements for form limitation are automatically disqualified. Poems containing profanity, vulgarity or offensive material are also automatically disqualified.
PRIZES: The winners for Text Makata ng Linggo will receive 4,000.00 each and other giveaways. At the end of the the last contest week, the 4 Text Makata ng Linggo entries will again compete and only one will be declared a grand prize winner and will receive P5,000.00.
DECISIONS: All decisions made by the judges are final.
FEES: There are no entry fees for the contest. No purchase necessary. No financial obligation to enter or win the contest.
COPYRIGHTS: The author retains all copyrights to the submitted poem. Winning poems will appear on the Foundation AWIT website with the copyright notice intact and may be considered for publication in a forthcoming anthology. The author agrees to give full authority to Foundation AWIT to have his/her submitted entry be published in any publication and appear in contest memorabilia without need for prior consent. His/her authorship, however, shall be acknowledged in all instances.
NOTIFICATION: Winners are announced every Monday of October. Winners are notified by SMS and will be announced with their winning entries on the website and Facebook, and will be published in selected newspapers.
PRIVACY POLICY: Foundation AWIT collects personal information for the purpose of notifying contest winners. All information submitted is kept in confidence, and used solely for notification purposes and shall not be made public by the Foundation.
