Deadline: 3 October 2012 (registration)
The Center for Korean Studies is joining with the Korea Times (Hanguk ilbo) and Honolulu’s Radio Seoul in sponsoring the thirteenth annual Korean storytelling and essay contest. The contest is open to learners of Korean as a foreign language from beginning to advanced levels. It will take place at the Center on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 9:30 a.m.
The contest is held each year in conjunction with the observance of Hangul Day, a day set aside to mark the invention and proclamation by King Sejong of hangul, the Korean alphabet.
The storytelling contest requires contestants to give a speech of three to four minutes in Korean on one of three topics: “Korea, Korean people and me”; “Korean language and me”; or “My dream.” The topic of the essay contest will be announced on the day of the contest.
Judges will include UH Manoa faculty members and representatives of the Hawaii Korean School Association and the Republic of Korea Honolulu consulate general.
The storytelling contest requires registration in advance. Registration forms are available from UH Manoa Korean language teachers and the Korea Times (telephone 955-1234). The deadline for registering is October 3, 2012. Pre-registration is not necessary for the essay contest.
