Georgetown University East Asia Essay Contest ($200 top prize | US)

If you are a junior or senior high school student (Grades 11-12) with an interest in East Asia, the Asian Studies Program at Georgetown University invites you to enter our East Asia essay contest this spring for a chance to have Georgetown University publish your essay online. The winning essay will be published on the Asian Studies Program's website as well as featured in The Asian Studies Wire, a weekly online newsletter that reaches hundreds of subscribers in the Georgetown community and the Washington, D.C. area. The contest winner will also receive a $200 cash prize.

TOPIC: Essays may be on the East Asia- related topic of the contestant’s choice.

ESSAYS WILL BE JUDGED ON:
  • The depth of research and analysis
  • Clarity of argument and supporting details
  • Writing style (grammar, citation, vocabulary, etc.)
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Open to U.S. citizens only
  • Contestants must be in 11th or 12th grade
  • No longer than 15 pages (min. 7 pages)
  • Margins between 1-1.5"
  • Size 12, Times New Roman font
  • Double-spaced
  • APA or Chicago style citation only
  • Bibliography and cover page not included in length requirement
