Pioneer Muslim Writing Contest (article, poetry, short story | $100 top prize | international)
Deadline: 16 October 2012

It’s back to school time, and with education in the air, we thought it only fitting to use that as our new theme. Do you know, or are you, a Muslim who is on the forefront of the arts, business, or science? Do you have a story to share? Do you want to be rewarded for it? Enter our Pioneer Muslim Contest and win $100 by writing the best article, story, or poem.

Muslim Academy’s reason for existence is to bring Muslims together and to show the world, specifically the West, that Islam is not what they think. We are Americans, Europeans, Asians, Arabs, Africans. We are mainly Muslims, but work with all religions. We work to bring our worlds together – through language, culture, and religion.

And it’s working. We have received hundreds of thousands of views of our blog and forum. Our writers focus on timely, interesting, informative articles on Islam in several languages. Our top commentators in turn become bloggers who help add richness and variety to our site. Our articles succeed because they come from, and help, those who matter most – our readers. Who is our next writer? We hope – you.

It is an unfortunate truth that many in the West view Islam to be a ‘backwards’ religion. At Muslim Academy, we know this is not the case. And not it’s our readers time to prove it. For centuries, while Europe suffered through the Dark Ages, Islam was a beacon of light. Islam was at the forefront of the arts, sciences, culture, and commerce. And guess what? It still is.

We have decided to start a contest that everyone, not just our regular writers, can participate in. Write, in your own words, the best original article relating to a Muslim person or organization that best fits the description of a pioneer. What is a pioneer? One who is a trailblazer, who sets the path behind which others follow. Who are today’s pioneers? Those Muslims who are at the cutting edge of the arts, sciences, technology, and business. Are you an entrepreneur who’s changing the face of online commerce? Are you an artist who is changing the way we look at the world? Or do you know a scientist who is literally changing lives in ways unheard of in the west?

The winner of the contest will have the best article that gives the best story. What is the best story? It doesn’t have to be about the author or even someone they know, but having that personal touch helps. What is the best article? Our readers will be the judge. We use an internal metric system that measures both comments, shares, views and likes. If your article is the best, it means our readers have decided it to be the best and you will reap the benefits. It doesn’t have to be in English. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to have meaning that touches people and helps them appreciate the fact that Islam isn’t in the dark – it’s a shining beacon of hope to millions, if not billions.

The winner of the contest will receive $100. The contest starts on the first day of September and ends on October 15, which is the deadline for submissions. The winner will be announced October 16th.
