The New Zealand Republic of Korea (NZROK) Friendship Society presents the 2012 English Essay Writing Competition (in English). The competition is open to people of all nationalities in two categories (1) secondary school students and (2) Tertiary/ Open.
TOPIC:
It is 50 years since the beginning of diplomatic ties between South Korea and New Zealand. How can we develop and improve the relationship between the two countries further, and why is it important to do this?
THE SECONDARY SCHOOL COMPETITION is open to all students who are enrolled at a New Zealand High School on the closing date.
Word Limit: 800 min – 1000 max
· First prize: $300
· Second prize: $200
· Third prize: $100
· $100 for the school of each prize-winner
· Merit awards
THE TERTIARY AND OPEN COMPETITION is open to anyone not at a secondary school in NZ. Any NZ citizen, permanent resident or international student over the age of 16 may enter.
Word Limit: 1500 min – 2000 max
· First prize: $300
· Second prize: $200
· Third prize: $100
· Merit awards
Final due date is 5pm on 16th August 2012. Winners will be contacted before 5pm on 31st August 2012 and will be publicly announced. Prizes will be presented at the NZROK Meeting on September 13th at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Centre The Link, cnr. Te Aroha St and River Rd, in Hamilton.

All entries must be submitted in English and include the entrant’s full name, name of school or tertiary institution, home address (for adults), contact phone number and email address. Essays are to be typed in Microsoft Word (.doc) using 12pt Times New Roman or Arial font, 3cm margins, 1.5 line spacing, and have numbered pages.
The writing must be entirely your own work. APA referencing should be used to show sources of information, quotations and attributions. Essays will be become the property of the publisher, NZROK Friendship Society, on submission, and may be published further in a suitable format. Independent judging. The judges’ decisions will be final.
