Call for Entries: 2013 Tribal Tales Award (India)
Deadline: 31 December 2012

Supported by NDYFA, the mission of the Tribal Tales Award 2013 is to promote the rich potential in tribal literature as a genre in tribal folk tales.

THE IMPORTANCE OF TRIBAL CULTURE:

Tribal tales are local socio-cultural pure distinct ethnic expressions of a rich culture without any fusion to other cultural expressions. They constitute the oral literary tradition of folk ballads, folklores, folk stories, legends, fables, parables, supernatural mysteries, ghost stories and numerous expresive art and the literary expressions, but some modern folk tales in a pluri-cultural society have fused with other traditions.

Modern culture however, is a heterogenous mix of global alien culture with elements of their past that erode with time or evolve with the modern concepts of the culture. Indian culture since antiquity is experiencing such an evolution with the adoption of not only alien influence from within the region, but also from the western culture on the Indian society.

The modern youth is being forced to support this evolution because it is grappling with declining traditional values passed down as legacy by their ancestor in their churlish defiance for freedom. This negative co relation between rigid tradition and liberal expression with work ambition and desires towards a materialistic hedonistic life is but a tragedy.

The Tribal Tales Award is a national endeavor to uphold the dignity and identity of the tribal rich literary culture in the diverse multicultural nation to fuse a strong link to unity. Share your cultural tribal tales in the preservation of our cultural diversity in unity.
