The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is organizing a an Essay Writing Competition for youth with the theme "Angry Fish! Heeding the Call for the Conservation, and Protection of the Endangered and Threatened Fish Species”. All secondary school students across the country can participate in the competition.

CONTEST GUIDELINES

1. Open to all enrolled high school students.

2. Each participant shall submit one entry only.

3. The essay must espouse on the given theme.

4. The essay may be in Filipino or English, Times New Roman, 12, double-spaced with a minimum of 1,000 to maximum of 2,000 words.

5. The essay should not bear the name of the student, instead must be accompanied by a duly accomplished entry form signed by the student and the adviser.

6. The regional office accepting the entry will put a three-digit control code at the entry form and will mark the same with code at the top right corner of the document.

7. The code should bear the following: the letter code of the region (see table below) and the three-digit number starting with double zero. To illustrate, entry forms from Region I, the control code for the first entry received would be B-001 and so on. Upon submission of the regional entries to the national office, the registration forms should be placed in a separate envelope.



8. For regional contestants, entries must be submitted at the nearest BFAR Regional Office. For NCR contestants, entries must be submitted at the BFAR Central Office.

9. Entry Form is available for download at www.bfar.da.gov.ph.

10. All entries shall become property of BFAR.

11. Criteria for judging:
  • Originality & coherence - 30%
  • Relevance to the theme - 40%
  • Style & presentation - 30%

12. Prizes:
  • National Level 1st Place- Php 10,000.00 + plaque of recognition for the student & the High School
  • National Level2nd Place- Php 8,000.00 + plaque of recognition for the student & the High School
  • National Level3rd Place- Php 5,000.00 + plaque of recognition for the student & the High School
  • Regional Level Top Three – P1,500.00 each (shall be charged to regional offices)

13. Deadline for submission is on September 15, 2012.
