The Central Translation Bureau is an institution directly subordinate to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Its offices are located in Beijing. The Bureau was originally the Office for the Translation of Mao Zedong’s Works, and it later became better known as the Central Translation Bureau. On December 15, 1961, Comrade Deng Xiaoping, who was at that time in charge of the work of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, issued a written instruction concerning a request from the International Department and Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee in November that year to the central authorities for the setting up of a permanent translation organization. Deng acceded to the request, and determined that it should come under the aegis of the Central Translation Bureau.
The main duty of the English Section of the Government Document Translation Department of the Central Translation Bureau is to translate into English the works of our country’s Party and State leaders and important Central Government documents. Some of the major works it has already translated and published are: Vols 1-5 of the Selected Works of Mao Zedong, the two parts of the Selected Works of Liu Shaoqi, the two parts of the Selected Works of Zhou Enlai, the Selected Works of Zhu De, Vols 1-3 of the Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping, Vols 1-3 of the Selected Works of Chen Yun, the documents of all the congresses of the Communist Party of China since the 11th Congress and of all the sessions of the National People’s Congress since the Fifth Congress (both 1978), the documents of every annual session of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference since 1995, important Central Government documents including the Decision of the Central Government Concerning Some Historical Questions, and Seventy Years of the Communist Party of China, as well as important documents relating to international gatherings, and ministries and commissions.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST:
• Be a native Japanese or English speaker with strong writing skills.
• Hold a BA degree or higher, ideally in political science, economics, law, journalism, mass communication, or other social sciences.
• Be between 30 and 57 years old.
• Have intermediate or higher level of Chinese reading skills.
• Work experience in translation or proofreading from Chinese into Japanese or English is preferred.
