Entries will be accepted for the 6th International MANGA Award from April 27.

The International MANGA Award was established to share Japanese pop culture and to help promote understanding of Japan. It was created to honor MANGA artists who have contributed to the promotion of MANGA overseas. This is the 6th such award, the selection of which was officially decided to be carried out at the 6th International MANGA Award Executive committee.

The Golden Prize of the 6th International MANGA Award will be given to the best MANGA from all the entries and three distinguished works will receive the Silver Prize. In addition, the Japan Foundation will invite the prize winners to Japan to attend the award ceremony. They will also have meeting with Japanese MANGA artists and visit publishing companies, etc., in Japan.

GUIDELINES FOR APPLICATION

1. Purpose: To promote MANGA overseas

2. Conditions of Entry

(a) The MANGA works (24 or more pages) must be produced in countries outside Japan. Both published and unpublished works are eligible except works which received the past Manga Awards.

(b) The MANGA works should be produced within three years of date for apply

(c) The works must be submitted in printed form as a rule

(d) Overseas publishing companies are permitted to apply for the Sixth International MANGA Award only if they confirm that their MANGA artists consent to their works being submitted

3. How to Apply

(a) Application Period: April 2012 – 15 June 2012 (entries must arrive by 15 June). Applications should be sent to either:
  • P.O.Box MBE 703, The Sixth International MANGA Award Executive Committee, Yanagiya Taiyo Building 1F, Nihombashi Muromachi 4-3-16, Chuo-ku, Tokyo 103-0022, JAPAN; OR
  • Japanese Embassies or Consulates General

(b) Two copies of the works must be submitted (additional copies may be requested for works which win the award)

(c) Please ensure the entry form, filled in either in English or Japanese, is attached to the works

4. Return of Works: The submitted works will not be returned to applicants. Therefore, if works have not yet been published, the original should be retained by the artist. We might donate submitted works to public organisations, or exhibit them.

5. Selection: The Sixth International MANGA Award Evaluation Committee is in charge of the selection procedure

6. Prize

(a) The Gold Award of the Sixth International MANGA Award will be given to the best MANGA and approximately three works of merit will receive the Silver Award

(b) Winners will be invited to Japan for around 10 days as supplementary prize for the award ceremony (without Bronze Award)

7. Award Ceremony: The award ceremony will be held in Tokyo in January 2013
