Deadline: 25 June 2012
The Tamarind is a quarterly publication, publishing four online issues a year, in the form of a professionally designed zine on Issuu. An interactive, comprehensive edition will be posted online with web extras, including additional submissions, interviews, and advice columns. Our first zine will be published in July 2012.
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
The first issue will be focused on IDENTITY. We are looking for submissions that tackle this issue head-on by unraveling the many layers that one’s identity can have. We want to read submissions that answer questions like:
This broad theme will invite submissions that might tackle challenging themes like sexual affiliation, rules of religion, cultural constraints, and more. Since we would like to spark dialogue whilst providing a safe space for every individual to contribute, we welcome the opportunity to read submissions that are hard to read due to their subject matter, but also, very insightful into the experiences many young South Asians encounter within their daily lives.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
The Tamarind needs you to submit your stories of IDENTITY to help this vision become a reality. Send us that poem you have been working on. Or that essay about moving to the United States (or back to South Asia). How about an old family photograph or a magazine collage? We would love to bear witness to your creative mind, your intersecting identities, and how your identity is influenced by your association with the South Asian community.
To submit, email your work only as a .doc / .docx (for poetry, fiction, and nonfiction submissions), a good quality .jpg / .tiff / .png (for art and photography), or a .mp3 (for music) attachment to tamarindlitzine@gmail.com with the subject “SUBMISSION.”
