The ACYA Journal provides a high-quality and high-visibility platform for students and young professionals to publish in-depth academic essays, original opinion articles, and creative entries focussing upon aspects of Australia-China affairs. This year’s Journal builds upon the inaugural 2011 issue by being bilingual, peer-reviewed, and offering prizes for the best submissions. The Journal will be launched at the October 2012 Australia-China Youth Dialogue (www.acyd.org.au), published and distributed to all ACYA Chapters in Australia and China, and made available on the ACYA website.
CREATIVE WORK SECTION:
Description: Photography, art, poetry, prose, anything!
Prize: 1st Prize - $100.
Theme: Anything to do with Australia or China!
Guidelines: Text submissions must be under 1000 words.
ACADEMIC ESSAY SECTION:
Description: Formal academic essays.
Prize: 1st Prize (English) - $500, 1st Prize (Chinese) - $500.
Theme: “40 Years of Australia-China Relations” (very broad - see details below).
Guidelines: 2000 - 4000 words, academically referenced, subject to peer-review.
OPINION PIECE SECTION:
Description: Opinion articles, book reviews, interviews, reflective travel journals, any non-fiction prose that falls outside the parameters of a formal essay!
Prize: 1st Prize - $100.
Theme: Anything to do with Australia – China affairs!
Guidelines: 500 – 2000 words, not academically referenced.
Submissions may be in either Chinese or English. Entries to the Academic Essay section will be judged in separate language categories. Apart from the Creative Work section, the published Journal will be entirely bilingual.
