Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development is a private, chartered, nonprofit organization, founded in 1995 by His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar. BRIEF DESCRIPTION
  • Plan and publishbooks according to an agreed schedule and to agreed budgets
  • The job involves working from London and Doha offices as well as extensive travel to other countries as agreed with the Managing Director.
  • Knowledge of the Arab and international publishing industries, as well as suppliers of all key services, is essential.
  • This is a senior level role with extensive decision-making, budgetary and programme delivery responsibilities. The person will be a member of BQF’s senior management team working closely with the Managing Director and Bloomsbury.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Create a successful publishing plan and manage the publishing process through the following:
  • Contribute to setting the publishing strategy
  • Create a publishing plan to carry out the publishing strategy
  • Negotiate and acquire original and licensed content so that each publication achieves the financial and publishing objectives
  • Establish a rights department so that rights can be acquired efficiently
  • Manage and support the editorial team so that all members are able to carry out their work effectively
  • Monitor and manage editorial schedules for all agreed titles
  • Manage and support BQFP design, production and marketing teams (incl. website) so that all departments are fully aware of each other’s work
  • Liaise with Bloomsbury UK editorial, production and marketing teams and ensure that all BQFP editors, designers and marketing staff maximize available support from BUK
  • Knowledge transfer to local Qatari employees
  • Seek, negotiate and implement client publishing projects
  • Deliver results as per business plan and budget
  • Manage in-house editors in the London and Doha offices, as well as freelance editorial support.
  • Manage the in-house design department in the Doha office as well as supervising in-house design and editorial sourcing of freelance design services.
  • Liaise closely with Bloomsbury UK production department and supervise the Managing Editor to help maintain BQFP publishing schedules in collaboration with Bloomsbury UK production department.
  • Liaise with Bloomsbury UK editorial and marketing for timely coordination of opportunities for improving publishing and marketing prospects of all BQFP titles.
  • Liaise with other Bloomsbury companies worldwide regarding potential publishing and marketing collaborations.
  • Identifying titles for potential profit
  • Manage editorial and design teams across Doha and London offices and freelancers
  • Develop and implement new client publishing opportunities

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 7 years knowledge, skills and experience in the field of international publishing
  • Knowledge of Arab world markets and readerships
  • Knowledge of Arabic
