founded in 1963, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (http://www.cuhk.edu.hk) is a forward-looking and intellectually vigorous university, aspiring to be acknowledged regionally and internationally as a first-class comprehensive research university. With a team of over 2,000 full-time teaching and research staff, the University offers a broad spectrum of programmes up to the PhD level in various disciplines organized under eight Faculties (namely, Arts, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Science and Social Science). In 2011-12, the undergraduate and postgraduate enrolments in our publicly-funded programmes have reached 11,300 and 3,200, respectively.

The Faculty of Arts comprises 11 core academic departments: Anthropology, Chinese Language & Literature, Cultural & Religious Studies, English, Fine Arts, History, Japanese Studies, Linguistics & Modern Languages, Music, Philosophy, and Translation, as well as the English Language Teaching Unit and the Yale-China Chinese Language Centre. The Faculty offers a comprehensive range of major, minor and interdisciplinary programmes (e.g., Cultural Management), with a team of 300 full-time teaching and research staff taking charge of the educational development of 1,500 undergraduate and 340 postgraduate students. The University seeks qualified candidates for the Deanship of the Faculty. The appointee will be a member of the University senior management team, reporting to the University Council via the Vice-Chancellor/President or the Provost. As the academic and executive head of the Faculty, the Dean will provide academic leadership and discharge administrative responsibilities in respect of academic, staff, financial and student matters. He/she is also expected to actively engage in alumni and community relations and develop networks.

Candidates should have achieved academic standing appropriate for appointment at the Professor level in one of the disciplines in the Faculty of Arts. They should have an appreciation of the breadth of research / educational developments in the relevant fields and the range of intellectual interests represented in the Faculty, demonstrated capability for academic leadership and strategic management in higher education institutions, a long-term vision for the development of the Faculty, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Salary and fringe benefits for the post will be highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
