PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN TRANSLATION IN THE SCHOOL OF CHINESE

Applications are invited for appointment as Professor/Associate Professor in Translation in the School of Chinese, tenable from September 1, 2012 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal. An appointee with demonstrated performance will be considered for tenure towards the end of the second three-year contract.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Translation or related areas. They should pursue an active agenda of research and publication that can complement and reinforce the Programme’s strengths in the broad spectrum of bilingual studies. Applicants are expected to have the ability to develop and conduct courses that are consonant with the curricular needs of the Programme and to inspire creative and critical reflection on vital language issues. The School values a strong commitment to the development of innovative research paradigms and pedagogical approaches. Primary teaching responsibilities will be at the undergraduate level, but the appointee will also be expected to supervise M.Phil. dissertations and Ph.D. projects. The appointee as at Professor level should possess an outstanding research record, show evidence of accomplishment in teaching and curriculum development at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and have high international standing in Translation Studies. He/She should also be able to demonstrate strong academic leadership and an ability to promote a collaborative and collegial research culture. A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, as well as leave, and medical benefits. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
