Dublin Literary Award for Young Malaysians 2012

Students between 14 and 18 can now submit essays for the Ninth Dublin Literary Award for Young Malaysians competition. The winner and their parent will be sent to Dublin, UNESCO City of Literature, to attend the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Awards, the world's richest book prize.

CONTEST RULES & REGULATIONS

Entries must contain the participant's full name, I.C. number, age, address, telephone number, e-mail address (if any) and name of school.

Judging of the entries will take account of their originality and creativity. Essay should be written or typed double-spaced on A4-sized paper. Word count must be included.

All decisions made by the panel of judges on matters pertaining to the contest are final. No correspondence will be entertained.

Proof of posting is not proof of receipt. Revisions of essays which were submitted earlier will not be accepted.

Entries must be the original work of the entrant. Quotations should be acknowledged. Essays that plagiarise or make excessive use of internet sources will be disqualified.

The Star reserves the right to photograph any winner and publish and/or use the names, particulars and photographs of the participants and their essays at any time, without prior notice or consent. The participants agree to indemnify the Organiser against all loss, costs and claims if the participant's entry infringes the copyright of any party.

Results of the contest will be published in The Star.

Topic: "Be Careful What You Wish For"

Essay language: English

Length of essay: 800 - 1,200 words

Eligibility: students aged 14 to 15 (junior category); students aged 16 to 18 (senior category).
Age is assessed on 13 April 2012

Best Essay Overall: Trip to Dublin, Ireland, for the winner and a parent flying with Etihad Airways to attend the gala ceremony for International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award and to visit leading Universities and the sites of the city

Second Prize: Euro 500 (Age category winner who does not win overall prize)
