“Translation in and of the World” Conference at The Student Center (Qatar)
Date: 29 April - 1 May 2012

About the Conference

“Translation in and of the World” is the third of a series of annual conferences that aim to create a Gulf-based platform for discussing issues related to translation. The conference will take place from April 29 to May 1, 2012 in Education City. Keynote lectures and workshops on audiovisual translation, literary translation, media translation and business translation will be delivered by internationally renowned scholars and highly experienced professionals. The workshops, led by experienced professionals and educators, will offer groups of translators and those interested in pursuing a career in translation an opportunity to understand and experience various aspects of the craft – some in relation to Arabic/English and English/Arabic translation and others from less language-specific perspectives.

Conference Organizers: Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing

Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing (BQFP) is owned by Qatar Foundation and managed by Bloomsbury Publishing Plc in London. BQFP is based in Doha, Qatar, and has three main aims:

Publishing: To publish books of excellence and originality to the highest editorial, design and production standards, in Arabic and in English. The list ranges from board books for babies books via fiction and non-fiction for adults and children, information and reference, to academic monographs.

Reading and Writing Development: to encourage the lifelong literacy in Qatar and the Arab World.

Knowledge Transfer: Transfer of publishing and related skills to Qatar and the Gulf region via training and other initiatives.
