Poetry, Slam the Coldest Summer Ever at Mt Cloud Bookshop, Baguio
Date: 15 April 2011

Your independent Baguio bookshop is all fired up to host a second poetry slam this Friday, April 15, at 8PM! This time around local poets and lovers of the spoken word will be joined by the fellows and panelists of the 50th U.P. National Writers Workshop.

Time: 8:00pm - 11:00pm

Location: Mt Cloud Bookshop, Casa Vallejo, Upper Session Road, Baguio City, Philippines

Competing poets will raise temperatures in three heats of performance poetry!

Registration Fee: 100php to join and get a vinyl Mt Cloud Bookshop sticker

Prizes include: journals, books, Mt Cloud shirts and Baguio goodies!

A joint event of Likhaan UP Institute of Creative Writing, Baguio Writers Group, Mt. Cloud Bookshop, and Hill Station.

Mechanics:

1. In the first elimination round, competing poets will be asked to perform the lyrics of a pop song as though it were spoken word. The organizers will select 2-3 English pop songs and 2-3 Tagalog pop songs. The competitors may draw lots from the language of their choice. Thus the basis for judgement in the first round will be based entirely on performance. Ten poets will go on to round two. Please note that the song lyrics should be delivered as spoken word, not as a song.

2. In the second elimination round, the Top Ten poets will perform their own, original pieces. The judges will comment on each performance. Only five poets will go on to round three. 3. For the third elimination round, the Top Five poets will be given a topic and ten minutes to write a poem on this topic in an isolation room. One by one, the remaining poets will be called into the Cloud to deliver the freshly written piece. Three poets will be declared the winners of the night! Prizes include Likhaan journals, signed books, Mt Cloud shirts, and Baguio Goodies. The Grand Prize will include a gift certificate for a sumptuous meal in Hill Station.

There is no fee for spectators but the audience is encouraged to react as they please! Everyone is welcome!
