Lebanese American University’s Second Annual Poetry Competition

Call for Submissions The Department of Humanities and the Writers Club at the Lebanese American University (Beirut) are hosting their Second Annual Poetry Competition for students of both the Beirut and Byblos campuses.

Poetry submitted for the contest should reflect one of the following categories of classical and modern composition:
  • Arabic Metrical Poetryشعرموزون ومقفى "عمودي"
  • Arabic Free Verse "شعر حديث "حر ومنثور
  • English Metrical Poetry
  • English Free Verse
Entries should adhere to the following guidelines:

Entries should be in Word (.doc) file, Times New Roman 12-point font. Each poem must appear on a separate page. The author’s name, ID number, and telephone number must appear in the upper right hand corner of the page. Line count must not exceed 30. You may send up to four poems (one for each category). Include a short bio in the body of your email. Submissions that do not adhere to the guidelines will be disposed of.
  • First place (for each category): $150 + Certificate
  • Second place (FEC): $100 + Certificate
  • Third place (FEC): $50 + Certificate
Award distribution ceremony: May 19, 2011 at 4:00 p.m., Faculty Lounge, Irwin Hall, Beirut campus.

Submission deadline for the contest: May 1, 2011.
