ACS Region 2 Essay Contest, Spring 2011


Qualified contestants: all students from our member schools

Contest Level and Group: Based on Chinese School’s grade, contester will be grouped into three levels. They are “Young Group” (grade 1-4), “Junior Group” (grade 5-8), and “Senior Group” (grade 9-12).

Deadline: 2011 03/30 by postage

Rule of contest:

1. Students can write their essay at home. Hand writing in traditional Chinese or simplified Chinese. Students at or lower than 3rd grade can use Zhuying or Pinying.
2. To encourage students from non Chinese heritage family to participate, essay from Young and Junior groups will be judged in two groups – Chinese heritage and non-Chinese heritage. Senior level is in one group. Winner for first three place will be picked from each group.
3. The number of words: no limitation. However, 200 for young level and 500 for Junior and Senior levels are recommended.
4. In the page of essay, there must have school’s name, student’s name, level, and group written. School’s Principal to collect them all and send them out together to ACS R2
5. Topics (student can select either one from two topics)

a. Young level
i. My Friend
ii. I have a dream

b. Junior level
i. My experience on Chinese Culture (trips to China, Taiwan, Hong Kong … or even Chinatown.
dinning in Chinese restaurant ..)
ii. What I know about the Chinese Culture

c. Senior level
i. Look back 100 years Chinese history and look forward the bright future
ii. Celebrate the Revolution of 1911 Hsinhai Revolution or Xinhai Revolution (Chinese: 辛亥革命; pinyin: Xinhài Gémìng)

Judging and Awards

We will invite three senior Chinese scholars who are not associated with any of member school. Essay will be judged fairly and transparently. Each group will have three winners who will be awarded with money and certificate. Depends on number of participant, few certificate of merits will be given with small gifts. The result will be announced at middle of April.
