Job Description
The Communications and Publications department is responsible for the corporate communications and public affairs activities of the Chamber including: media relations, issue management, production of a suite of corporate publications, preparation of research reports and briefing materials, overall Chamber communications and management of the AmCham Shanghai website.
The Chamber’s publications program, including the flagship magazine, Insight, is a major part of the Chamber’s external communications function with members, key stakeholders and the public. This position works directly with the Director of Communications & Publications and the Editor-in-Chief to manage the editorial and copy workflow, design and production processes across the publications program which encompasses both print and electronic media.
Duties:
1. Assist with management of the research, writing, editing, design and publication of Chamber publications including Insight, the annual China Business Report, Viewpoint and other publications.
2. Write feature articles for Insight magazine
3. Support the Editor-in-Chief with planning, development, editing and proofreading of content for Insight magazine and other Chamber publications.
4. Support the production process of Insight and other publications on an as needed basis
5. Develop story ideas for Insight and develop content initiatives, reader interactions and publication concepts.
6. Work with the Director of Communications & Publications to edit and manage all internal and external Chamber communications.
7. Assist in the development of talking points, speeches and other briefing material for the AmCham Shanghai president and other Chamber leaders.
8. Any other duties related to the communications activities of the Chamber as directed by the Director of Communications & Publications.
SELECTION CRITERIA
1. Three-four years experience and high level of competence in writing, editing and publishing, both print and electronic.
2. Native English speaker is essential; Chinese language ability would be a plus.
3. Demonstrated ability to research, write and edit material for publication and display, in variety of forms and the ability to achieve a high-level of accuracy and attention to detail.
4. Outstanding written communication skills.
5. Strong project management skills including proven ability to maintain publishing schedules, manage multiple projects within budget and fixed deadlines, and work effectively with contract and in-house writers, designers and printers.
6. Proven capacity to work effectively (both independently and cooperatively) in a team of multi-skilled communication professionals.
7. Understanding of U.S.-China relations and issues impacting U.S. companies with operations in China.
8. Degree in business, economics, communications, journalism or relevant discipline.
9. Advanced skills in design software packages, specifically: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat would be highly regarded.
