Date: 4 - 18 March 2011
The Bookworm International Literary Festival 2011: March 4th – March 18th, and our teaser event, The Prologue: January 26th – January 29th!
The Bookworm International Literary Festival is a unique celebration of literature and ideas in China, programming 100 events across three cities, connecting over 70 Chinese and international writers and thinkers, including you!
Now in its fifth year, The Bookworm International Literary Festival is hosted across three of China’s most vibrant locales: the political heart of China and its erstwhile imperial seat, Beijing, the romantic canal-driven and one hundred-gardened Suzhou, and the cultural hub of Sichuan’s sultry capital Chengdu.
With China at a historic crossroads, experiencing unparalleled sustained change, looking to the future whilst catching up with the present, without forgetting the past, the Festival provides an open centre for intellectual and creative exchange. We seek to showcase the modern voices of Chinese authors to the world and bring some of the world’s leading literary lights to China.
Our unique audience -of teachers, ambassadors, artists, entrepreneurs, designers, NGO workers, journalists- are the cornerstone of our Festival. A group as diverse, inquiring and learned as the writers we invite. The Festival’s intimacy allows you unparalleled open and informal access to today’s thinkers and authors.
Our writers, like our audience, are curious about China and its great minds and authors. Our setting provides a singular opportunity for Chinese and international writers of screenplays to spoken word, memoir to fiction to meet and be introduced to one another’s work. Our Festival is truly international and is committed to featuring emerging as well as established writers from around the world.
With each year we facilitate ever more links between writers & translators, Chinese & international publishing houses and international literary festivals, allowing for partnerships, projects and possibilities.
The 2011 programme will again feature:
* Booktalks
* Panel discussions on literature, publishing and journalism
* Writing and publishing workshops
* Film screening and talks
* Meet-the-author events
This year we are excited to announce an expanded Children’s’ literature programming and to introduce the “Footnotes” programme: evening performances of music, comedy, cabaret, theatre, spoken word, translation slams and storytelling.
