OOSKAnews.com Water Sector Newsletter Seeks Asian Freelance Writers (payment: $65-$200 per article)
From the Writers Weekly Forum:

OOSKAnews, Inc., a publisher of weekly electronic newsletters covering the water sector in developing countries is seeking freelance writers/reporters in Africa/the Middle East, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. For more information contact liz@ooskanews.com.

Each of our newsletters contains 10 300-400 word stories and one 800-1,000 word story. For the shorter pieces we pay $65 and for the longer pieces we pay $200.

Our regions include the Middle East and Africa, Southern and Eastern Asia, Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union and Latin America and the Caribbean. We also publish two “digests” covering all four regions – OOSKAnews Water Weekly (which is more business-focused) and OOSKAnews International Water and Development Weekly (which is more focused on development and environmental issues). These include content also published in the regional weekly reports.

The Middle East and Africa newsletter publishes on Mondays. Southern and Eastern Asia and Eastern Europe and Former Soviet Union publish on Tuesdays, and Latin America and the Caribbean publishes on Wednesdays.

Each issue includes a “Focus This Week” section, which includes one or two news stories of approximately 800 words each; 10-12 400-word news stories divided by topic (“Finance & Funding,” “Environment and Waste,” “Government Moves,” or “Supply”); and 20 briefs culled from other media sources; these are done in-house.

The stories cover water and wastewater as an industry, as well as issues of policy and governance and environment and sanitation issues. Our target audience includes executives and decision-makers at companies and organizations dealing with the water sector, as well as within multilateral financing institutions, think tanks, NGOs and academia.

The stories are not bylined, and are original reporting. Our rates are $65.00 for 400-word stories and $200 for the longer “Focus” stories.

Payments are done bi-monthly, around the 21st, for all contributions published in the previous calendar month. So, on December 21 we will be issuing payments for all articles published in October and November.

We send out requests once a week for "pitches" i.e., ideas, for stories. We then let contributors know if we can use their story idea before they put the effort into writing it.
