Call for Writers: Women and Peacebuilding in the Middle East Series (Gender Across Borders)
Deadline: 25 January 2011

Gender Across Borders is running a series on Women and Peacebuilding in the Middle East and is soliciting articles that explore a range of perspectives regarding the roles women can and should play in bringing peace to the Middle East.

Despite the high priority that Peace in the Middle East occupies in many foreign policy agendas and NGO initiatives, the role of women in bringing and maintaining peace in the region continues to be overlooked. In a recent special session at the Clinton Global Initiative, women were not included as participants in the discussion, nor did the panel acknowledge the crucial role that women play in peacebuilding.

Some topics might include:

* the lack of women in prior Middle East talks,
* the role women play in maintaining peace agreements on the ground,
* the effects of continued hostilities on women,
* women currently working to bring peace to the region, and the challenges they face/successes they have enjoyed,
* a feminist critique of conflict in the Middle East,
* the relationship between women’s rights in the Middle East and the ability of women to take part in critical decision-making situations,
* an economic analysis of the effects of years of tension on women in the Middle East,
* a personal perspective on the role of women in the Middle East,

or another topic not listed above.

Articles can be between 300-1500 words and should be well-researched, although not necessarily academic. To apply, please submit your article along with a resume or short bio to Kate at kate@genderacrossborders.com. No prior experience with blogging or professional writing is necessary.

Deadline to submit articles is Tuesday, Jan 25.
